Puerto Rico protests, riots, take to streets against Governor Ricardo Rosselló.

CBS News: Thousands call on Puerto Rico's governor to resign in massive protest.
Thousands marched to Puerto Rico's Governor Ricardo Rosselló's residence in San Juan as part of a massive protest that included musicians Ricky Martin, Residente and Bad Bunny. One protester told CBS News' David Begnaud the group chat scandal was the "straw that broke the camel's back."

The crowd ranged from teenagers to retirees, with some waving the island's flag printed in black and gray rather than red, white and blue to symbolize their discontent with a government they call corrupt and unresponsive to its people.
[.]
...Rosselló's former education secretary was arrested and accused of steering millions in improper contracts to politically connected contractors. Then hundreds of pages of online chats between Rosselló and members of his administration leaked, revealing the men mocking women, the disabled and victims of Hurricane Maria.

WTVD ABC 11: President Donald Trump fires up lively crowd at campaign rally at ECU.
President Donald Trump returned to North Carolina on Wednesday night for a campaign rally in a likely presidential battleground state that he won in 2016.

Trump rallied Republican supporters, harshly criticizing four fiery, left-wing congresswoman of being un-American and claiming they are the face of the Democratic Party that will ruin the country.

Bernie Battles The Media. (Smart money on Media).

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) presidential campaign continues to express frustration at members of the media and pollsters, accusing them of going out of their way to dismiss him and his second bid for the presidency, according to a Wednesday report from the Hill.

While the Vermont senator has consistently polled in the top tier of candidates – often coming in second or third place – his campaign believes he is being treated as the political equivalent of a B-lister, with greater attention going to presidential campaign novices like Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kamala Harris (D-CA). Instead of changing tactics, however, the Sanders campaign is hitting the media directly.
Is that B-lister, or Blister - as in feelin' the Bern?

Migrant student, 14-years old, breaks teacher's jaw.

Free West Media: A 14-year-old Syrian immigrant seriously assaulted his Swiss female teacher because she asked him the "wrong" questions.
The youth from the town of Möriken-Wildegg in Switzerland, talked a lot about the Quran, and during recess instructed girls to dress more modestly.

The case has caused shock in the country. Last week, the Argauer Zeitung published the news, that the student from the school broke the jaw of a teacher by punching her repeatedly with his fist.

He did this when she wanted to find out if the Syrian secondary-school student was once again carrying a knife — as he had already done in the past.

This time the issue was taken up by the Weltwoche journalist Alex Baur. According to his research the assault revolves around the 14-year-old “M”.

He allegedly comes from a Syrian family with numerous children, who had arrived in Switzerland five years ago and lives on welfare. The immigrant youth is described as “quite intelligent, self-confident and quick-witted”.

“M” however constantly talks about the Quran. He also requested — “in Allah’s name” — that the girls from the area dress and behave more modestly.
[.]
[The teacher did not touch] the student, and only told him to show her the contents of his pockets. Because of that, the teen attacked her, and, according to eyewitnesses, he hit the 62-year-old female teacher five to six times with a his fist and the edge of his hand.

Additionally, while she was trying to escape, he allegedly kicked her. The teacher, a mother of two adult sons was about to retire. Weltwoche reported that she was still in shock.
[.]
André Schärer, the school district deputy, neither confirmed nor contradicted the report from the Aargauer Zeitung based on anonymous sources contacted by Weltwoche. He could only confirm that the Syrian had stood out from the beginning.

Schärer had also heard that “M” had allegedly told the girls in the recess court to dress more modestly: “There are clearly certain signs that he doesn’t agree with the way we are living our culture.”

It took a week before the incident was made public. The school district deputy insists nevertheless that nobody wanted to sweep the case under the rug[.]
[.]
[P]arents have been complaining that the school wanted to hide the incident. “This isn’t correct. We wrote a letter to the parents during the week following the Youth Festival. Our hands are tied, because of the investigation by the juvenile prosecutor. Even if we wanted to give out more information, we are not allowed to,” Schärer said about the complaints.

Remember when Ilhan Omar asked for compassion and leniency for ISIS recruits? Remember?

KMSP FOX (November 2016): Ilhan Omar asks judge for compassion in ISIS recruit sentencing.
9 Minnesota men charged with planning to join ISIS are scheduled to be sentenced next week. Ahead of those court dates, 13 letters were sent to Judge Michael Davis in the case of defendant Abdirahman Yasin Daud, including a letter from state Rep. Ilhan Omar, who on Election Night became with first elected Somali-American lawmaker in the nation.

Rep. Omar asked Judge Davis for “compassion” and a “restorative approach to justice,” concluding that “this ruling can set a precedent and has the potential to be a landmark case in addressing extremism.”
[.]
Ilhan Omar’s letter to Judge Davis, dated Nov. 8:

Honorable Judge Davis,

As you undoubtedly deliberate with great caution the sentencing of nine recently convicted Somali-American men, I bring to your attention the ramifications of sentencing young men who made a consequential mistake to decades in federal prison. Incarcerating 20-year-old men for 30 or 40 years is essentially a life sentence. Society will have no expectations of the to be 50 or 60-year-old released prisoners; it will view them with distrust and revulsion. Such punitive measures not only lack efficacy, they inevitably create an environment in which extremism can flourish, aligning with the presupposition of terrorist recruitment: “Americans do not accept you and continue to trivialize your value. Instead of being a nobody, be a martyr.”

The best deterrent to fanaticism is a system of compassion. We must alter our attitude and approach; if we truly want to affect change, we should refocus our efforts on inclusion and rehabilitation. A long-term prison sentence for one who chose violence to combat direct marginalization is a statement that our justice system misunderstands the guilty. A restorative approach to justice assesses the lure of criminality and addresses it.

The desire to commit violence is not inherent to people -- it is the consequences of systematic alienation; people seek violent solutions when the process established for enacting change is inaccessible to them. Fueled by disaffection turned to malice, if the guilty were willing to kill and be killed fighting perceived injustice, imagine the consequence of them hearing, “I believe you can be rehabilitated. I want you to become part of my community, and together we will thrive.” We use this form of distributive justice for patients with chemical dependencies; treatment and societal reintegration. The most effective penance is making these men ambassadors of reform.

The restorative approach provides a long-term solution – though the self-declared Islamic State may soon suffer defeat, their radical approach to change-making will continue as it has throughout history – by criminalizing the undergirding [sic] construct rather than its predisposed victims. Therein, this ruling can set a precedent and has the potential to be a landmark case in addressing extremism.

Thank you for your careful attention,

Ilhan Omar

Siezed items from Epstein's mansion include forged passport with different name, diamonds, piles of cash.

Washington Examiner: Found in Epstein’s NYC mansion: foreign passport, underage porn, cash, diamonds, and more.
The raid of accused child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein's palatial New York City residence uncovered a now-expired passport issued in the 1980s by a foreign country with Epstein’s picture but with a different name on it and his residence listed as Saudi Arabia.

Prosecutors said during Epstein's bail hearing Monday the passport was in a locked safe that was also filled with "piles of cash" and "dozens of diamonds."

Epstein is a flight risk and poses an “ongoing and forward-looking danger,” prosecutors claimed, pointing to the "substantial collection of photographic trophies of his victims and other young females in his mansion”[.]
[.]
Investigators also allege that Epstein attempted to pay off possible witnesses against him with hundreds of thousands of dollars when media scrutiny began to ramp up in late 2018.

The source of Jeffrey Epstein’s wealth, which prosecutors recently pegged at north of $500 million during bail proceedings , has long been a mystery and the subject of rampant speculation. But perhaps the oddest claim about where some of Epstein’s vast fortune came from actually originated with Epstein himself, who reportedly bragged to friends back in the 1980s that he was acting as a global bounty hunter for unspecified governments.

The allegedly falsified foreign passport that prosecutors recovered a week ago does match this timeframe.
[.]
Prosecutors said they examined bank records which suggest Epstein “already earns at least $10,000,000 per year… while living in the U.S. Virgin Islands, traveling extensively abroad, and residing in part in Paris, France.” They suggested that, even though Epstein’s source of wealth remains a mystery to them, “there would be little to stop the defendant from fleeing, transferring his unknown assets abroad, and then continuing to do whatever it is he does to earn his vast wealth from a computer terminal beyond the reach of extradition.”

At the center of Jeffrey Epstein's secluded New Mexico ranch sits a sprawling residence the financier built decades ago — complete with plans for a 4,000-square-foot (372-square-meter) courtyard, a living room roughly the size of the average American home and a nearby private airplane runway.

Known as the Zorro Ranch, the high-desert property is now tied to an investigation that the state attorney general's office says it has opened into Epstein with plans to forward findings to federal authorities in New York.

Epstein, who pleaded not guilty this week to federal sex trafficking charges in New York, has not faced criminal charges in New Mexico.
[.]
In a 2015 court filing in Florida, a plaintiff in a lawsuit against Epstein said she had been abused at several locations, including the New Mexico property.

Records show Epstein purchased the ranch, valued by county officials at over $12 million, from the family of former Gov. Bruce King, who died 10 years ago. A 1995 Santa Fe New Mexican story about his plans to build a mansion on the property said the home would be 26,700 square feet (2,480 square meters) with a 2,100-square-foot (195-square-meter) living room.

Aerial images of the property show an airplane hangar and landing strip. Closer to the east edge of the property, several structures that appear to serve as small homes and stables stand in public view.

The King family still owns land surrounding much of Epstein's ranch near the town of Stanley, a rural outpost on the plains that stretch east of the Sandia Mountains.

Gary King, the son of the former governor, was the state attorney general from 2007 to 2015, and was among a handful of candidates in the state who returned Epstein campaign donations.

King had received $15,000 from Epstein in 2006 during his first-bid for attorney general, and then received $35,000 from firms linked to Epstein in 2014.

Former Gov. Bill Richardson donated $50,000 in 2006 gubernatorial campaign contributions from Epstein to charity.

Gays denied a Proclamation for Pride celebration by Columbia Heights city claim discrimination.

Columbia Heights City council meeting; KSTP

Columbia Heights LGBTQ residents wanted to celebrate the city's first Pride festival, set to take place this coming Saturday.

They had hoped the celebration could start at Monday's city council meeting.

Instead, the group packed the small chambers for a different reason: to protest the mayor's decision not to issue a proclamation, recognizing and celebrating the inaugural event.

Explaining her decision, Mayor Donna Schmitt said the pride festival didn't fit within the guidelines for the ceremonial documents.

However, Schmitt did confirm to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, those guidelines were developed the same week that organizers of the pride festival began asking about a proclamation. (So what about the timing of the Guidelines? - DD)

"It is not about a group, it's about, let's follow the guidelines," Schmitt said during an interview. "They can go out and celebrate, they are more than welcome to rent our parks and have a family friendly event as they have requested."

Organizers of the event say the decision has created concerns about discrimination in the city.

Amada Marquez Simula, who has been planning the event for months, said the group feels the event fits within the guidelines for recognition.

"She didn't think that it was important enough for a proclamation," Simula said.

Residents who went to Monday's council meeting admonished the mayor, voicing their frustrations during the public comment period.

"Right now, the eye is on Columbia Heights that our city government is biased against the LGBTQ community," Simula said.

Mayor Schmitt responded to those criticisms during an interview with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, saying her decision was not motivated by the discrimination of any group.

"I just hope they realize, they don't represent everyone in the city either," Schmitt said.

The Pride festival will happen regardless.
Selection from the Columbia Heights City Proclamation Guidelines:

A proclamation doesn't validate anyone. We are all responsible for our own validation. Validation comes from within, not from a proclamation.

Enjoy the festival. Celebrate. Have a great picnic. Be Happy. Have Fun. Don't Drink and Drive. Enjoy the Day, I hope the weather is great! Savor the limited amount of time we all have on harmony, instead of a proclamation.

Global Warming increase caused by Netflix, binge-watching and porn.

Here we go...

Daily Dot: Netflix and porn addictions are contributing to global warming.
...a study concluded that YouTube emitted about 11 million tons of carbon dioxide in 2016 on its own. A new report from the Shift Project concluded that the transmission and viewing of all online videos generate 300 million tons of carbon dioxide a year–roughly 1% of global emissions. The big takeaway from its findings: To reduce our negative impact on the planet, we need to curb our Netflix and porn habits.
[.]
[T]he Shift Project] found that on-demand video services (like Netflix and Prime Video) are responsible for a third of the emissions–and porn videos generate another third. Based on these numbers, watching porn videos emit the same amount of CO2 as entire countries like Bangladesh and Nigeria!

Now, the organization is concerned that the world’s current streaming habits may be both problematic and unsustainable.

“If we let the video users go how they are going right now, there will be a time when we just won’t be able to really sustain these users, and I think it’s dangerous for the digital infrastructure for the digital world,” Maxime Efoui-Hess, co-author of the study, told Gizmodo.

The organization is calling for more regulations regarding online video use and even created a browser extension (only compatible with Firefox) called Carbonalyser. The extension is supposed to raise awareness by helping users find out how much emission their personal computer use is responsible for.

The authors of the study suggest limitations to the amount of data users have access to.

So maybe the next time you’re feeling all hot and bothered, just think about climate change! It’s more effective than a cold shower (and much less wasteful).

"I'm sorry, you have to reduce your Netflix streaming by 50%. It's for the planet."

"Hi, I'm with the new Data Usage Oversight Regulatory Board. You've been using too much data playing Fortnite and other gaming. You'll need to curb that by 75%."

"You've exceeded your allotted You Tube viewing for this month. Unless you want to pay The Shift Project..."

This will be a fun battle to watch. A brand new sector identified on which to over-regulate and those who oppose it. This battle sounds familiar.

Maybe we start with this guy. Can we blame him? Let's confiscate a large portion of his overall wealth. It's for the planet. He invented the internet, didn't he?
