The president commuted James Phillip Womack's eight-year federal prison sentence for distributing methamphetamine.

President Donald Trump has granted clemency to a Republican congressman's son, who was behind bars for distributing methamphetamine.

Trump, 79, officially commuted the federal sentence of James Phillip Womack, the son of Rep. Steve Womack, on Thursday, Jan. 15, according to the Office of the Pardon Attorney. An official Executive Grant of Clemency issued by the U.S. Department of Justice formally announced the commutation of the Arkansas congressman’s son.

The congressman’s son was sentenced in federal court in May 2024 to a $1,900 fine and eight years in prison for distributing more than five grams of methamphetamine, according to Office of the Pardon Attorney records.

Federal prosecutors indicted James in April 2023, according to court documents viewed by PEOPLE. Outside of distributing more than five grams of methamphetamine, the indictment also charged him with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. [ ANOTHER FELON WITH A GUN? How did he obtain it? James has a history of arrests dating back to 2007, KTHV reported, citing court documents.

He was arrested in 2018 on more than 10 charges, including multiple related to drugs and firearms, and later entered a plea agreement in the case, according to KTHV and KNWA. He was sentenced in state court to nine years behind bars for multiple felony charges and released early in 2020, but was later arrested again, according to KNWA.

Just The News: US Capitol Police investigates bag of cocaine found at its headquarters.

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) launched an investigation on Wednesday, into a small bag of cocaine that was found inside of its headquarters early Wednesday afternoon.

The police department said the bag was found in a hallway of the police station, in an area that is heavily trafficked by employees and contractors. It comes after the Secret Service found cocaine in the White House last July, which was also found in an area that is highly trafficked and near the area visitors are asked to leave their cellphones as part of the West Wing tour. No suspect was ever identified.

The Lauderdale County [Alabama] Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says a man was arrested Saturday after a traffic stop led to deputies making an interesting discovery….methamphetamine inside the man’s hamburger.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputies determined that Timothy Nolen, the driver of the vehicle, had a revoked license and the vehicle was impounded per regular policy.

During the inventory of the vehicle, LCSO said that Nolen said he was hungry and just wanted to eat his hamburger. According to a statement by the sheriff’s office, however, when deputies checked the burger they found more than an all-beef patty on the toasted bun.

“Unfortunately, the burger contained more than lettuce and pickles,” LCSO said on social media. “Deputies retrieved a small bag of Methamphetamine.”

The sheriff’s office said after the find Nolen was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving while revoked, and having a switched tag.

A Florida man who evaded deputies earlier this year by escaping into a swamp was caught on Saturday after he tried to outrun law enforcement on a riding lawnmower, authorities said.

Dusty Mobley, 40, was located around 9:30 a.m. at a home on Pasco Broxson Circle in Holt, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said. He was wanted on warrants related to the theft of a $40,000 boat in January.

When Mobley spotted the deputies, the sheriff’s office said he switched a John Deere riding lawnmower "into high gear" and tried to flee the scene. Mobley was quickly apprehended after pursuing deputies tased [sic] him.

Mobley was taken into custody and found in possession of a revolver, a handcuff key and a pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue, deputies said.

On federal gun forms, Hunter Biden checked off the box marked "no" next to the question "Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?"

Hunter said "no," though he has a book forthcoming from Simon and Schuster called Beautiful Things that "recounts his descent into substance abuse and his tortuous path to sobriety. The story ends with where Hunter is today—a sober married man with a new baby, finally able to appreciate the beautiful things in life."

Additionally, just five years earlier Hunter was discharged from the Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine. Family members had also spoken about the troubles Hunter had with drugs. Lying on the background check is a felony.

Washington Times: Schiff suggests Google, YouTube and Twitter notify users who engaged with coronavirus misinformation.

Rep. Adam B. Schiff has asked Google, YouTube and Twitter to consider following Facebook protocol in alerting users who interacted on their platforms with misinformation involving the coronavirus pandemic.

The congressman’s office released letters Thursday that Mr. Schiff, the chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, wrote to the heads of the companies this week.

Citing the presence of coronavirus-related misinformation on their platforms, Mr. Schiff suggested the companies adopt a practice similar to Facebook and proactively notify users who engaged on their platforms with harmful medical content involving the continuing outbreak.

“Though the best protection is removing or downgrading harmful content before users engage with it, that is not always possible,” Mr. Schiff wrote in the letters.

“I recognize the complex challenges that misinformation presents to online platforms,” Mr. Schiff added. “As we all grapple with this unprecedented health situation, I hope you will consider this suggestion for keeping users better informed.”

The letters were dated Wednesday and sent to Sundar Pichai, the chief executive officer of Google’s parent company Alphabet, as well as YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and Twitter CEO Jason Dorsey.

When I read the LARGE lettered sentence from Schiff, am I the only one who pictures a WWII High-Ranking, Overachieving German Officer puffing away at a cigarette he is tightly holding between his thumb and forefinger, saying:
