Exxon boss Darren Woods described Venezuela as “uninvestable.” Woods said: “We have a very long history in Venezuela… We’ve had our assets seized there twice. You can imagine to re‑enter a third time would require some pretty significant changes from what we’ve historically seen here and what is currently the state.” He added: “If we look at the legal and commercial constructs and frameworks in place today in Venezuela, today it’s uninvestable. And so significant changes have to be made to those commercial frameworks, the legal system, there has to be durable investment protections, and there has to be a change to the hydrocarbon laws in the country.”

The Exxon CEO’s comments were echoed by Conoco’s boss, Ryan Lance, who said: “We need to be also thinking about even restructuring the entire Venezuelan energy system, including PDVSA.”

What that means is that Venezuela is far from under US control.

From the viewpoint of Big Oil, it’s not mission accomplished. Venezuela is ‘uninvestable’, which is the capitalist way of saying, there was no regime change to give the oil companies what they want – total control over Venezuela’s hydrocarbon wealth.

Bu-bu-but oil prices fell to the $89-$90/barrel today.

The president commuted James Phillip Womack's eight-year federal prison sentence for distributing methamphetamine.

President Donald Trump has granted clemency to a Republican congressman's son, who was behind bars for distributing methamphetamine.

Trump, 79, officially commuted the federal sentence of James Phillip Womack, the son of Rep. Steve Womack, on Thursday, Jan. 15, according to the Office of the Pardon Attorney. An official Executive Grant of Clemency issued by the U.S. Department of Justice formally announced the commutation of the Arkansas congressman’s son.

The congressman’s son was sentenced in federal court in May 2024 to a $1,900 fine and eight years in prison for distributing more than five grams of methamphetamine, according to Office of the Pardon Attorney records.

Federal prosecutors indicted James in April 2023, according to court documents viewed by PEOPLE. Outside of distributing more than five grams of methamphetamine, the indictment also charged him with possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. [ ANOTHER FELON WITH A GUN? How did he obtain it? James has a history of arrests dating back to 2007, KTHV reported, citing court documents.

He was sentenced in state court to nine years behind bars for multiple felony charges and released early in 2020, but was later arrested again, according to KNWA.

It's always helpful to the strong image any country wants to project when one of its warships is sunk by a German passenger cruise ship.

BERLIN – A Venezuelan navy ship fired shots at a German-owned cruise ship on March 30 and rammed into the passenger vessel, leading to the sinking of the warship in the Caribbean.

The Iranian regime-allied Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accused the captain of the RCGS RESOLUTE cruise ship of “terrorism and piracy" and sought to force the ship into a new direction on the high seas. The cruise ship, which had no passengers on board and was flying under a Portuguese flag, has a reinforced hull that enables it to sail through ice water.

“Shortly after mid-night, the cruise vessel was approached by an armed Venezuelan navy vessel, which via radio questioning the intentions of the RCGS RESOLUTE’s presence and gave the order to follow to Puerto Moreno on Isla De Margarita. As the RCGS RESOLUTE was sailing in international waters at that time, the Master wanted to reconfirm this particular request resulting into a serious deviation from the scheduled vessel’s route with the company DPA.”

According to the statement, “While the Master was in contact with the head office, gun shots were fired and, shortly thereafter, the navy vessel approached the starboard side at speed with an angle of 135° and purposely collided with the RCGS RESOLUTE. The navy vessel continued to ram the starboard bow in an apparent attempt to turn the ship’s head towards Venezuelan territorial waters.”

The cruise company said the RCGS RESOLUTE sustained minor damages, not affecting vessel’s seaworthiness, it occurs that the navy vessel suffered severe damages while making contact with the ice-strengthened bulbous bow of the ice-class expedition cruise vessel RCGS RESOLUTE and started to take water.”

The move came as the U.S. Justice Department announced charges against Maduro and others on narco-terrorism.
