Three are "airplane-size", one "building-size" and one "bus-size" asteroid will miss Earth this weekend. 

I'm not aware of any new category that would include a Lizzo-size asteroid.

NASA has its eye on a large asteroid that's about to make a "close approach" to Earth.

Asteroid 2022 KV1 is predicted to be up to 328 feet wide and should skim past Earth tomorrow.

Its predicted size would make it larger than the Statue of Liberty.

New York's Statue of Liberty stands at 305 feet tall when you include the base.

An asteroid of this size could do some damage if it hit Earth but the space rock is expected to pass us from a safe distance. (Oh...how unfortunate and disappointing. - DD)

The larger asteroid should pass Earth from just over 2.6million miles away.

Another Asteroid to "skim past" Earth within days!

NASA is staying tuned for a huge space rock that's three times the size of a blue whale and it's about to skim past Earth.

Asteroid 2021 GT2 is passing close enough to make it on NASA's Earth Close Approaches tables.

The space agency estimates that the asteroid is between 121 and 272 feet wide.

In comparison, the average blue whale is around 70 feet long.

How dare they! Teasing, godless asteroids and meteors tiptoeing their unobtrusive paths around earth. Another letdown. They missed us again. A damn shame.

No SMODs on the horizon for a good collision, either. Just downright disappointing.

"Snopes Says" the story about an asteroid hitting earth on April, 29, 2020 is "False", which could mean there's a high probability of it being "True". So we can look forward to that. Whatever it takes to stop the obsessive and frenzied run on TP.

Ultima Thule, the farthest cosmic body ever visited by a spacecraft, has been officially renamed Arrokoth, or "sky" in the Native American Powhatan and Algonquian languages, following a significant backlash over the old name's Nazi connotations.

The icy rock, which orbits in the dark and frigid Kuiper Belt about a billion miles beyond Pluto, was visited by the NASA spaceship New Horizons in January this year, with the first detailed images showing it consisted of two spheres stuck together in the shape of a snowman.

Its technical designation is 2014 MU69 but the New Horizon team initially nicknamed it Ultima Thule (pronounced Tool-ey) after a mythical northern land in classical and medieval European literature described as beyond the borders of the known world.

That name sparked a backlash, however, because it was co-opted by far-right German occultists in the early 20th century as the fabled ancient northern country of the "Aryan" people (the term they used to describe proto-Indo-Europeans).

No word from NASA how the Hooterville Post Office, located within Sam Drucker's General Store, fared in the moon-delivery selection process.

An international team led by astronomers with the University of Warwick in the UK issued an announcement this week that sounds like a summary for a Star Trek episode: "The 'Forbidden' Planet has been found in the 'Neptunian Desert.'"

NGTS-4b is an exoplanet that's 20% smaller than Neptune, but still three times the size of Earth. It's located 920 light-years away from us in an area known as a Neptunian Desert.

"This planet must be tough -- it is right in the zone where we expected Neptune-sized planets could not survive," said astronomer Richard West, lead author of a paper on NGTS-4b scheduled for the July issue of the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
