Fort Snelling Bdote Signage causes controversy.

The Never-ending saga continues.

...a controversy has arisen over signs the Minnesota Historical Society [MHS] has placed at the fort, which is located in an area known as Bdote by the Dakota people.

The old signs simply read "Fort Snelling Historic Site," but newer signs now read "Historic Fort Snelling at Bdote," - a Dakota word meaning where two waters meet. In this case, the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers.
[.]
"Without any public input that I am aware of, the Historical Society has changed the name of historic Fort Snelling, which is a military installation, to historic Fort Snelling at Bdote," Sen. Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

He said he's also heard from veterans who are upset by the signs, and consider it "revisionist" history.

"I think it's a rewriting of our history and I'm not in favor of it," he said.
[.]
David Kelliher of the MHS said Fort Snelling has not been renamed. Rather, the MHS has simply expanded the stories they are telling about what has happened there over 200 years.
[.]
The debate comes as a revitalization project at the fort is scheduled to get underway. During the 2018 legislative session, MHS received $15 of the $30 million it requested for the project. And the MHS website says work is scheduled to get underway this fall.

A total of $19.5 million has been appropriated by the state for the project overall, and the MHS said $15 million has been pledged in private dollars.
[.]
...DFL Senator John Marty and others take issue with the use of the term "revisionist history." And they say the entire MHS should not be punished over signs at one location.

"I guess I have a real problem when you're calling it revisionist history," said Marty, DFL-Roseville. "That it might not just be more accurate history. But aside from that, I think the concept of punishing the entire agency because you have a disagreement with them is a problem."

The DFL-controlled House and Gov. Tim Walz have not proposed any cuts to MHS funding.
MN DEM State Senator John Marty

Senator Marty is an exclusive member of the "Never Met A Spending Issue, Tax hike or Fee implementation that I Didn't Favor" Club. Reducing Funding is the only thing institutions like the MHS understand. "Fund [Name a Project] our way or we're going to make financing difficult" is straight out of The Leftist Playbook. Financially penalizing a business, an organization, an association, a "body" is what The Left lives for and thrives upon. It is their sacred lifeblood.

Tying public funding to a political ideology is the basis of Leftist methodology. Marty's been part of the state legislature for the past 600, 700, 800 years. He's thoroughly institutionalized, a deeply seated Blue-as-Blue DEM.

The only people looking out for the taxpayers are the elected Republicans and more importantly, Minnesota's New Republicans. Voters may woke to this some day.

Standing Rock, Taxpayer funded art, offensive?

KMSP FOX 9: Police depicted as Nazis, Klan and Trump groping woman.
The painting, by Anishinaabe artist Jim Denomie, depicts the 2016 protests over the Dakota Access oil pipeline in North Dakota. Protesters were concerned about the impact on the Missouri River and the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.

Denomie’s work shows Native American protesters on one side of a fiery river holding peaceful signs. On the far bank are police with military vehicles, attack dogs and a water cannon. One of the vehicles features a swastika, while Klan members stand behind the police. Nearby, a caricature of President Donald Trump is seen groping a woman.
[.]
State Rep. Josh Heintzeman, R-Nisswa, said the painting was “repulsive” and said the Arts Board should not fund projects like this.
[.]
Denomie said the state should continue funding art that criticizes the government because it’s part of the democratic process.

“I invent creative ways to express this information in hopes that people will stop and think about that history and those events,” he said.

Hit the link for more images and info. Note, that the amount of one grant Mr. Denomie received was the organization's maximum of $10,000. I'd like to see the invoice(s) and amounts for paint and canvas supplies.

Should "provocative art" have a purpose beyond just being provocative? I'm not sure I buy the artist's rationalizations of his "deeper meanings" behind the images. For me, I base it on "plug-in different characters" and what's the result? In other words, substitute any and all different people and groups for those that are represented in the images, and is the result the same, different or unchanged? Bill Clinton groping a woman? R. Kelly? Drug cartels and gangs depicted as a KKK-like group? Insert the Anti-Defamation League as the "crushing law enforcement" agency? The U.N.? LGBTQ? Russians? Irish? Muslims? The Rotary Club? Toastmasters?

Does art like this work towards a process of healing and improving relationships or does it further foment division and prejudices? Should the government fund "the arts"? If so, what restrictions, if any, should be placed on artistic details and expression? Would "the arts", in general, suffer greatly if limited solely to private funding and philanthropy?

Subject-matter or "rationalized subject-matter" notwithstanding, the quality of the painting(s) itself - and I'm no painter or paint artist by any means - resembles cheap, water-color figures from a C- high school student art class assignment.

Anyone?

Nathan Phillips, Vietnam Vet or Stolen Valor?

The sorting out whether or not Nathan Phillips, the Native American beating his drum, served in the U.S. Military or if he's guilty of Stolen Valor.

This Ain't Hell: Vietnam "Times" Veteran.
It has been reported several times in the media that Nathan Phillips is 63-64 years old.  That would have put him at 18 years old in 1973, so he would have graduated high school in either 1972 or 1973.  It would have been an extremely tight timeline to have him in the country of Vietnam during the War.  This alone has some people raising questions.
CDNNathan Phillips IS Stolen Valor.
...the Washington Post very quietly retracted the claim that Nathan Phillips served in Vietnam. Of course, they had to [sic]. Nathan Phillips claimed he served in Vietnam in 1976 when talking to reporters The Toledo Blade, but as you probably know the war ended in 1973. He said he was a marine veteran but the last marine unit left in 1971 when he was 16 years old.
Quod VerumNathan Phillips, Fake Marine.
The man is a liar. He lied about his service in Vietnam, and he lied about what the young Trump supporters did.

It took me exactly three minutes to expose Nathan Phillips as a liar. I appear to be the only person who made the effort.
Clover Chronicle: Numerous links and stories regarding Phillips' service, or lack of it.
Other sources say marines were still stationed at the U.S. embassy when the liberation of Saigon occurred on April 30, 1975.
Pacific Pundit pulls no punched: Nathan Phillips never deployed to Vietnam.
...another epic media fuck up. I’ve lost count how many stories the media has blown in just the first two plus weeks of the new year.
Catholic News AgencyNathan Phillips attempted to disrupt Basilica Mass.
...a group of Native American rights activists reportedly led by Nathan Phillips attempted Jan. 19 to enter Washington, D.C.’s Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception during a Saturday evening Mass.

The group of 20 demonstrators was stopped by shrine security as it tried to enter the church during its 5:15 pm Vigil Mass, according to a shrine security guard on duty during the Mass.

“It was really upsetting,” the guard told CNA.

“There were about twenty people trying to get in, we had to lock the doors and everything.”
Vietnam Vet or Stolen Valor? The trending accuracy so far is: Stolen Valor. That is just shameful. It's like claiming Native Ancestry when you have none.

On the issue of attempting to disrupt the religious ceremony of others? I have nothing but contempt for those who do this. If Phillips IS the "activist" who led a demonstration at the Basilica, he should be ashamed. IF it is him.

Standing and Smiling is now Menacing.

FOX 5 San Diego: Teens "viral" standoff with Native American man.
Videos of the confrontation show a smiling young man in a red Make America Great Again hat standing directly in front of the man, who was playing a drum and chanting. Other kids can be seen mimicking the chant, laughing and jumping around.
Yes, that's what the video shows.

I see a young man, smiling, looking rather content and unoffensive. Kind of like the facial expression one would have attending a live concert, listening to a band or singer. But that's not the narrative chosen by the MSM.

The story behind the skewed MSM narrative.

Nathan Phillips, the Native American, executed de-escalation deftly of what could have been a huge brawl. And a kid stands there virtually motionless, quietly smiling, and the Media paints him as an antagonist?

Way more info on the Real Narrative here. Spectator UK:
Take this MAGA-hat wearing teen. He is presented as taunting the Indian Elder. Just look at the video. But wait. A classmate has written to a local television station to give his side of the story, which is sharply at odds with the white-boy-bad version burning up the internet. And another video, as Daniel McCarthy points out, shows the activists taunting the kids.
It's funny; the angry, profane, filth-laden protesting of the Bitchdom March is portrayed by the MSM as so positive, such a wonderful gathering of peace-promoting, equality-seeking women Bitches. But a white teen in a MAGA cap smiling? Pure evil.
