Deliverance actor Cowboy Coward dies. "Got a Real Purdy Mouth."

Daily Mail: Herbert Coward dead at 85: Deliverance actor - who played Toothless Man - killed in car crash.

Herbert Coward, best known for playing Toothless Man in the 1972 classic Deliverance, has died in a car crash aged 85.

Coward died alongside his partner Bertha Brooks, 78, his beloved pet chihuahua named Little Man and his squirrel named Cowgirl after his silver Nissan was hit by a truck driven by a 16-year-old on Wednesday afternoon.

Neither Coward nor Brooks was wearing a seatbelt and the teen driver was not speeding, ABC news reported.
[.]
Coward shot to fame following the release of Deliverance, in which he delivered some of the most iconic lines including 'He got a real pretty mouth, ain't he?'

Most of his lines were improvised, Coward later told News 13.
[.]
He gained his toothless smile after being hit in the face with a pistol during a staged gunfight at the park. He earned his 'Cowboy' nickname for operating bulldozers that built Ghost Town, which opened in June 1961.
[.]
He remained friend [sic] with [Burt] Reynolds throughout their lives, and saw the star just weeks before his death in 2018.

'Burt said he didn't have but three friends — real friends — and I was one of them because I never asked him for nothing,' he said.

If you can get your hands on the Deliverance Anniversary or Deluxe Edition DVD, (check with a library), watch the special feature interviews with the cast and director John Boorman

Reynolds: "I asked John (Boorman) why he's shooting this film in sequence since most movies never are. He said, because if one of you dies I can write it into the script."  🤣 That is wicked and dark. 🤣

It's a great movie.

RIP.

I wonder if Wikipedia will be editing this Beneath The Planet of The Apes entry because it's so offensive?

Wiki entry for Beneath the Planet of The Apes, as above, Archived here.

"Current" Wiki entry  Here.

Update: Well, that didn't take long:

Sunday night, some channel was running a "Planet of The Apes" (original movies) binge. I wanted to look up someone in the cast and found that a character named "Negro" remained on Wiki. So I took a screen cap.

Just updated it, clicked on the "current" Wiki link and noticed it had changed. I archived it (the original entry, the first image on this post) thinking it would be changed...and here we are.

Update Update: Will a WikiEditor change the character name of "Fat Man" to "Glandular Problem/Slow Metabolism Person?"

Drive-In Movie Theaters see surge in business amid coronavirus.

Drive-in theaters across the US are seeing a surge in customers as Americans weigh their now-limited entertainment options amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Owners of drive-in theaters in California, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri told the Los Angeles Times that they had seen a rise in ticket sales as other public spaces like bars and restaurants were ordered closed to encourage social distancing.

The theaters offer an interesting alternative to staying home while staying safe, though areas like concession stands and public bathrooms could still pose a risk for spreading infection by contact.
The DriveAmericans Are Returning to Drive-In Movie Theaters to Escape Coronavirus Mayhem.
... there are only 300 or so drive-ins left across the country, and not all are open just yet.
Cleveland.com (via Archive): The drive-in theater, relic of yesterday.
The Showboat Drive-In Theater in Hockley, Texas, about a 30-minute drive outside Houston, normally sees ticket sales go down about 40% on a weekend when they don't have any new movies. Last weekend, they saw a 40% increase, says the theater's owner, Andrew Thomas.
Axios: Drive-in theaters report uptick in business amid coronavirus.
Nobody is near us, and we can actually enjoy the movie without feeling that paranoia where something like somebody coughing would have us instantly move,” Christian Singleton, who brought his 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son to the California Paramount Drive-In on Tuesday, told the Times.

New York currently has the most drive-in screens in the country at 49 — while Pennsylvania has 45 and California and Ohio each have 44 screens, according to the United Drive-In Theatre Owners Association.

It's Monday again.

I've never done a "It's Monday" post that are so popular at so many sites and blogs. They're all pretty funny. But doing regular and consistent updates like that - it's more effort than I have in me.I tip my hat to those who do these updates on a regular basis.

So - a Happy Monday, for the first, and likely only, time...

The Vault of Horror: "High Anxiety", Mel Brooks' Hitchcock Spoof:
But my personal favorite spoof scene has always been the death of Dr. Wentworth, played by Dick Van Patten. A takeoff on a scene from Hitch's last film, Family Plot--released the year before--it features Van Patten struggling to escape from a car while the world's most annoying rock song blares over the car stereo, until his eardrums explode. This ludicrous scene always cracks me up the most, and best of all, Brooks actually composed the rock song! ("If you love me baby, tell me LOUD! LOUD!")

Mel Brooks: "[Van Patten] had a talent for that rarest of gifts—satire."

Happy Monday.

Puppy reacts to Mufasa's death in Lion King.

Story here. MSN:

More here.

Our pet ferret gets emotional and depressed when Mr. Orange dies at the end of "Reservoir Dogs".

I saw mere moments of some news item about that guy from the Plexaderm commercial giving some sort of testimony under oath to a congressional committee? What's that all about? And I heard something about some woman walking around Congress in a Slanket? Or it a Snuggie? Not sure of the difference. They sure as hell don't make these for ferrets.

Yep. Happily off Grid for a bit. Well, back to the party. Be back soon.

Is Hillary president yet?

Fisherman's Blues

Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys. First time I heard the song was (the first time) watching (what is easily in my top ten movies of all time) Waking Ned Devine. Via You Tube.
