A few months ago my wife told me that I have too much time on my hands and that I needed to find something to do. That gave me the idea to start collecting and restoring old, mostly Damascus barreled shotguns. Now I have three antiques that I bought and have my eye on a couple more. I don't know why she is a bit displeased with me. I did exactly what she suggested. Damned if you do, damned if you don't..........

Taminator, Hey...great to hear from you. Was starting to wonder if all was okay. Then the other day saw a comment of yours over at Ex's place, so figured you'd just been busy. Firearms restoration can be a big undertaking, but when it's all finished, ultimately very satisfying. Hard job depending on how much is involved. How's the metal, you gotta re-blue as well? We gotta keep the wives happy, right? Happy wife, happy life. Thanks for stopping over.

The metal's the thing that I'm interested in. Doing the rust blue thing where you take it down to bare metal, apply rust blue solution, store for a few hours at high humidity to make orange rust, boil or steam the barrel to convert the rust to a blue/black oxide, ferric chloride(mild acid) dip, wash and dry, mild polish and go through the whole process a number of times. Lather, rinse, repeat. Until you the beautiful two tone Damascus pattern. I'm in the process now of making my steaming apparatus. Yeah, I know that I'm more than a bit nuts.......

Everything's pretty good here. Thanks for asking. I go through long periods sometimes without feeling like commenting much. Just me being moody me......

Taminator, That's a big undertaking, I Tip My Hat to ya. Lots of work involved. But you'll be beaming when the job is complete. Congrats, a lot of people would never do that work themselves, rather, they'd pay a gunsmith to do it. Keep us all posted on how things are going. I have no doubt your work will be anything less than total pro.

You, "moody"? Naaaa. I just figure you're off listening to some classic tunes :)
