I'm late on this.
THR: Joe Flaherty, Original ‘SCTV’ Castmember, Dies at 82.
Joe Flaherty, the two-time Emmy-winning writer and Second City alumnus who sparkled as Guy Caballero, Count Floyd, Big Jim McBob and Sammy Maudlin as an original castmember on the landmark Canadian sketch comedy series SCTV, has died. He was 82.
His daughter, Gudrun Flaherty, told the Canadian Press he died Monday after a brief illness.
Anyone lucky enough to remember the original airings of SCTV, especially their 90-minute format, knows SCTV was everything SNL wasn't and could never be.
Flaherty's knack for doing over-the-top, exaggerated comical impressions of well-known actors knows the laughter he brought. Case in point: His devastatingly hilarious impression of Charlton Heston in the SCTV parody of Towering Inferno, even though Heston wasn't in the cast of "TI".
Thanks for the number of innumerable laughs Joe. RIP.

He was one of my favorites on SCTV. I have the whole series on dvd. I only ever watched a few of the early episodes of SNL and wasn't really impressed, but the lovely missus and I never missed SCTV.
taminator013 , I just love SCTV and have to check out getting the DVDs. You Tube has a good share of SCTV segments, too. Flaherty as Ward Clever and Bing Crosby are two characterizations that stand out leaving me laughing like crazy. 'Course Guy C. and Count Floyd are perennial favorites.
Great hearing from you.
